Construction Inspection

This course is designed for municipal engineering inspectors who want to improve their overall background in proper inspection of public and private construction projects in the State of New   Jersey.  The course was developed by the New Jersey Society of Municipal Engineers in cooperation with the New Jersey Local Technical Assistance Program at Rutgers’ Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation and the American Public Works Association (APWA).

Part 1 includes a review of construction contracts, technical provisions,   the role and legal responsibilities of the municipal inspector, examination of the conduit system, the fundamentals of soil compaction, ADA curb ramps, preparation of concrete construction, and proper installation of asphalt concrete.

Part 2 presents an overview of work zone traffic safety, regulatory agencies, OSHA regulations, New Jersey laws and ethics, local governments,  public relations, the developer’s escrow law, residential site improvement standards, construction administration, and information sources  that are relevant to municipal engineering construction inspection.
