stan84, beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, died Saturday, December 3, 2016 in Ocala, Florida.

He was born in Somerville, NJ to Joseph Stanley and Elenore Davis Stires. He was a long-time, proud resident of Somerville, more recently residing in The Villages, FL and Ortley Beach, NJ. He was a graduate of Somerville High School Class of 1950 and Rutgers University. Stan served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict with the Military Police. He was a licensed Professional Engineer, Surveyor, and Planner working in both the public and private sectors. He also was Director of Public Works in many of the positions he held. Notable stints included Bernard’s Township, Freehold Township, South Brunswick, Belleville. He was most proud of his work on the AT&T Complex in Bernard’s Twp. and work on the Freehold Raceway Mall. He was also a Past-President of the NJ Society of Municipal Engineers. Besides enjoying family and friends, his passions included fishing, woodworking, and carving. Always being creative.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years Lynne Lacey Stires, a son Mark Stanley Stires/Betsy of Alexandria, VA; a daughter Lisa Stires Schuyler/Tom Thorsen of Ringoes, NJ; a grandson Nathan Stanley Stires/fiancé Caroline; a granddaughter Victoria Stires Steel/Tyler; a step-daughter Patricia Nicol and stepson Ron Nicol, Jr./Denise. He is also survived by his beloved siblings- brother David M. Stires/Alicia of Memphis and sister Marjorie Stires Loeb of Absecon, NJ; and also his forever faithful sidekick and beloved dog Dolly, whom he cherished.

Funeral services will be Saturday December 10, beginning with a visitation at 10am to 12 noon at the Bruce C. Van Arsdale Funeral Home 111 No. Gaston Ave, Somerville. Interment will follow at New Cemetery in Somerville.
